Where To Begin Your New Website Design Project
First off let's clear the air about few very important World Wide Web myths. The Internet is NOT FREE! Period, point blank. Having a website is NOT FREE! There you have it. If you believe it is, then I suggest you leave now. We can't help you. FREE websites on the Internet mean, "you have virtually no, or very limited control over your web site design". Whether you build your own new website design, or hire a web designer to build one for you, there are significant costs involved.
Certainly, if you build your own website design, you'll save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. And if you build it to attract hungry, content feeding search engines, you could very well make a profitable income.
Here's what you are going to need.
1.) A thorough grasp and understanding HTML.
Get your head out of the gutter listening and believing website designing claims such as;
"No HTML coding needed", "Create Your Website In Minutes", or "Super-Charged Web Design
At The Touch Of A Button".
Forget about it! Such claims tell you one thing and one thing alone... "Give us your money for nothing". Take your everyday Internet web browser for example... There does not exist today… a fool proof HTML editor that'll make your website design easier than knowing and understanding HTML.
In fact, in most cases what they'll do more than anything is... confuse you
into total frustration. If they don't get you in the process of building your website,
they'll make up for it when it comes time to attract curious, content
seeking search engines and ultimately visitor traffic to your new creation.
It just isn't going to happen.
But there is an easier way...

2.) Get A Real Domain Name
Your domain name is your online identity. Ownership is your first step in acquiring authentic, cyber real estate
on the World Wide Web. Whether you are promoting a personal blog site, or selling Harley Motorcycle Parts, it's essential to use meaningful, relevant keywords in your domain name that
properly describe what your website page, pages, and content are all about.
Don't get caught up in buying a cheap domain name. What is a cheap domain name you ask? Domain name registration and ownership can cost you
from $7.95 per year up to $35.00 per year. You get what you pay for. There are a whole
Calvary of unscrupulous domain name registrars out there… willing and anxious enough
to cause havoc to both you and your domain name property.
Domain name scams run ramped and lurking on the World Wide Web. As easy as it seems to register and buy one, so is it as easy to lose it. Buyer beware. Know who you can trust before registering and purchasing your domain name. Here are some great domain name scams you should be made aware of… before you register and buy.
3.) Website Design Utilities & Tools Of The Trade
Text Editor
The very first thing you need to get your hands on is a good, all purpose text editor.
A text editor allows you to read, edit and create raw HTML document files. DO NOT rely on a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) text editor.
Examples of WYSIWYG text editors are Microsoft Web Expressions, (Formerly known as Front Page) and
Adobe Dreamweaver, to name a couple.
These pathetic WYSIWYG HTML text editors are not going to teach you a darned thing about HTML. They are sophisticated editing programs that are designed to make editing and managing a website a breeze- oh, and with no technical expertise or knowledge of HTML. Yeah right. You'll waste valuable time learning the program and trying to correct the errors they create. In the time it takes to finally master a half-way decent web page, you could have easily created five websites knowing HTML coding.
FTP
Next up, you'll need an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. An FTP is a network protocol used to transfer data from one computer to another
through a network such as the Internet. The program software creates a connection between two computers in order to exchange, download or upload files.
Once you make changes to your HTML documents on your computer (known as the local drive), an FTP is used to send the documents to your web hosting computer (known as the remote drive) where they can be viewed by the Internet community.

Know Your Web Site Design Limitations

Now anyone can
design & create web pages and manage a website with no technical expertise or knowledge of HTML. Sound familiar ?
Well, here's the truth... pure poppycot! If you're not going to learn the abc's of simple HTML, then you don't deserve any success from your website.
Web designers with creative ambitions should bear in mind that in any artistic field, you must start with a thorough understanding of the rules before breaking them. Otherwise you just look foolish.
